Creating Experiences Through Design: LiveStyled At The Stadium Business Design & Development Sum
Having worked with The SSE Arena, Wembley for just under 2 years, we at LiveStyled have certainly bore witness to the unstoppable rise of development in this prominent area of London. So it seemed only right that we should start the summit with a presentation of the evolution of Wembley as a destination.
Andrew Luxmore (Head of Property at FA) & James Saunders (COO of Quintain) highlighted the relentless work that is being undertaken in the area. There are bold plans for the near future that will certainly see Wembley Stadium & the SSE Wembley Arena play a vital role in the growth of the district for years to come.
Rejuvenation through development was certainly at the forefront of the next two presentations. The transformation of the State Farm Arena in Atlanta (led by COO Thad Sheely) is helping to put Atlanta very much in the driving seat of enhancing fan experience, and the evolution of the iconic & world-class Kuala Lumpur Sports City (led by GM Datuk S. Nalgunalingam) undeniably being an example of how a project can change an entire region.
A huge congratulations to all the winners of the StadiumBusiness Awards on Tuesday evening, which ranged from the Sensory Room at Vicarage Road, to the Organics Dehydrator at the MCG in Australia, & both displaying that innovation can have such an extensive impact to both clubs & fan alike.
Kicking off a day with a Commerzbank Arena promo video, that could make even Michael Bay jealous, Patrik Meyer proved as insightful as usual. Although only 13 years old, the stadium is already considered "old", so the enhancements being taken to keep it in its rightful place as a leading venue will certainly make for an interesting watch.
The Cagliari Arena project certainly turned heads in the afternoon. Rising above the Mediterranean Sea, the proposed future home of Cagliari Calcio elevated all expectations of what football stadia could look like when a club gets the opportunity to start from scratch. It will become the landmark not only of Cagliari, but of all Sardinia, so we wish Claudia Balu & the team the best of luck with their journey over the next few seasons.
On top of these two presentations, we were then given insight into the updates from what is being dubbed the most ‘ambitious stadium district development’ currently underway in Europe - Espai Barça. Aiming to integrate harmoniously into the heart of Barcelona, will be no easy feat, but with the backing of the local community, it will certainly be an exemplary project to look forward to.
It was a pleasure meeting acquaintances both old & new, and I look forward to the next summit.
